Karoo Birding Safaris
KAROO BIRDING SAFARIS is run by Japie and Ralie Claassen. Japie has spent almost his entired life in the Karoo. He specializes in finding LBJ’s and has been birding in the area for more than 20 years. Japie also has a good knowledge of the Karoo plants and animals. The Karoo is a little-explored part of South Africa and the place to find a lot of the birding specials of the dry west. Karoo Birding Safaris specializes in half day to twenty day tours in the remote areas of the Karoo as well as other parts of SA in conjunction with other bird guides of those areas. Japie welcomes novice to experienced birders and is willing to share his knowledge of the Karoo with them. He has a FGASA Level 1 and is DEAT registered. Japie has a SA bird lifelist of more than 740 bird species.
Ralie is preparing the food on birding trips but she herself is an experienced birder with a great love of the plants of the Karoo. She also has a SA bird lifelist of more than 700 bird species.
We also do some birding and nature tours to other parts of Southern Africa. Tours can be tailor-made to suite everyone.
